High School Outreach Program
Over the past twenty-six years, the Inland Area Writing Project has successfully operated its High School Outreach Program. The goal is to help schools and instructors prepare students for various college-level forms of “on-demand” writing and the challenges of academic reading and writing.
In this program, high school juniors take a practice Analytical Writing Placement Exam, which the University of California has been using for entering freshmen since 1987. The practice exams are assessed analytically by the University of California professionals who teach college-level composition courses. The evaluation culminates in a presentation to the students’ classroom, to review the results of the practice exams and to offer instruction in meeting college-level expectations for academic reading and writing.
